The "Yellow Groom" who took over his father-in-law's shop wants to showcase his handmade knits at a fashion show.

Mustafa Kaya, 34, who took over the yarn shop run by his father-in-law in the Ulus district of the Altındağ district with his wife five years ago, has become known as the "Yellow Groom" by local tradesmen due to his interest in knitting, which began during the Covid-19 pandemic and has developed over the years.

Kaya, who has started to exhibit her handmade products in addition to selling wool knitting yarn in her shop, is attracting the attention of customers and neighboring shopkeepers with her hand-knitted sweaters, vests and blankets in dozens of colors and different motifs.

Telling her knitting adventure to an AA correspondent, Kaya stated that she started this process with the thought "I can do it too" after being influenced by her husband and mother-in-law's knitting during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Kaya, who stated that her husband and mother-in-law told her, "You can't do it," and that she actually started knitting out of defiance, said that over time, she fell in love with this hobby and improved herself every day.

Kaya emphasized that knitting is not exclusive to women, saying, "I don't think knitting is a woman's job; men can do it too. They said I couldn't do it, but I did it."

Kaya, who explained that there are people from different professions such as doctors and non-commissioned officers who are interested in knitting, said, "I really want to exhibit the products I make in a fashion show."

Kaya's wife and business partner, Tuğçe Kaya, said she was proud of her husband's knitting skills and emphasized that men can also work in unconventional fields.

Tuğçe Kaya said, "Knitting is a hobby and a talent. It doesn't matter if you're a man or a woman; it's actually a kind of therapy. If knitting makes you happy, if you can distract yourself, if you can create something on your own and create a product without spending hours in front of the television, that's incredibly valuable."
